How to merrymake your home for Christmas!

Let’s merrymake your home and celebrate the season! For the longest time I’ve wanted to try this classic Christmas trend of adding multiple wreaths with bright big red bows on all my exterior front windows. And I figured what better year to start this tradition than 2020 to bring some extra joy to the neighborhood!

I learned a few things about how to best style these wreaths to work for exterior windows. The very first decision you’ll need to make is where do you want the wreaths to hang on your windows? They can be hung low on the window, high on the window or right in the middle.

At first I didn’t know this. I figured they would be right smack in the middle and I would hang them easy-peasy and call it a day of merrymaking! I bought beautiful red ribbon to hang them on and during the process I learned that my windows don’t work great with ribbon — stringing ribbon down through the middle window frame made the wreaths hang way too low for my liking. I’ve seen them hung on the lower part so it’s totally personal preference. So I tested out plan B, Command hooks. I use Command hooks for so many styling situations and they always seem to save me! And I must say they worked wonderfully for my wreaths and are still hanging even after enduring a wind storm!

Merrymaking with wreaths and red bows: Materials you need

I used quality basic wreaths. You don’t need to use super high quality wreaths because they are hung so high on your house that people won’t be able to tell the difference but you do want them to look nice and hold up for years of merrymaking to come (plus outlast severe weather), so get good quality basic wreaths for your home.

You’ll also need beautiful red bows that are made with outdoor ribbon as well as Command hooks. I’m sure several kinds of hooks will work but my tried and true are the ones I list below.

Find everything on Amazon: the best basic Christmas wreaths and beautiful red bows plus the Command hooks to hang them on your windows and get to merrymaking! The bows come in different options and they are all equally beautiful so you simply can’t go wrong. The bows are outdoor friendly, so you are prepared for winter weather! Get multiple bows, enough to decorate all your wreaths and add them to garland, wrap them around pots and more! For the wreaths, order the amount you need for the number of windows you have on the front of your house and when they arrive don’t forget to fluff them. Tip: Don’t forget your front door if you want to add the same kind to your door decor, or get a more high quality wreath with lights and Christmas ornaments. Either way they both will be showstoppers with these red bows!

Important to note, if you have double windows like me (see images of my house), you’ll need two wreaths per window.

Here are the links for all the bow options. Some might be sold out so keep checking back — I’ve noticed they keep restocking more throughout the season, but since we are late in the season I would hurry, they might be sold out soon!

The next step is to attach the bows to the wreaths. The awesome thing about these bows is they come with extra wire attached on the back of the bow. Simply find the place you want to add them on your wreath and insert through the metal base, then wrap and twist until super tight — you don’t want them to blow off in high winds! And fluff the bow so all the puffy parts are looking happy and round! Tip: when looking for where to add your bow to your wreath, hold up the wreath and look for the least dense part — attach your bow there!

All you need to do now is to hang your wreaths! Peel off the backing to the Command hook, stick it to the hook and hold to secure. Peel off the backing to the other side of the hook, hold to secure, and place the hook in the middle of your exterior window. If you have double windows like me, you’ll want to make sure your hooks are at the same level on both windows so your wreaths hang at the same spot.
